This project started with a shared love of running and a shared passion for visual storytelling. When we, Tan Vo and Miguel de la Rosa first met to talk about our idea to collaborate on a film about our collective experiences in the Orlando running community, we soon realized that we’d be creating something way more impactful than a traditional spec ad.  

We talked about what running meant to us and our own personal journeys finding our communities here in The City Beautiful. For Tan, he found his community at Haan Coffee when he first met Stanley (supporting talent) and they started going on runs together. Shawn (main talent) later joined the group runs as he met Tan at the gym one morning.

For Miguel, it took several years before he opened up to the idea of running with others. Miguel moved to Orlando in 2013 for his job and realized that he had an unhealthy relationship with running — he used it as an escape from the stresses of life and used it to reach a state of “numbness” to forget about pain and heartbreak.

The Running Bond relates both the beauty and pain experienced by runners each day. And, the beauty comes from more than just the act of running, but the bond we each share as a community of runners. We made this film to remind ourselves that running is so much more than just a means to escape, but rather a beautiful way to deeply connect with ourselves and others.
